Two people seriously injured after crash on A170 near Pickering

North Yorkshire Police appealing for witnesses after a serious collision on the A170 between Thornton-le-Dale and Pickering.

The collision happened at about 7.30am on Wednesday morning (April 17), and involved a silver Volkwagen Passat travelling towards Pickering and a blue Volkswagen Up travelling towards Thornton-le-Dale.

The road was closed to allow emergency services to work at the scene.

Fire crews from Pickering and Malton were called to assist police and ambulance crews by using cutting equipment on one of the vehicles, which allowed paramedics to access one of the casualties.

The drivers of both cars were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The road re-opened shortly after 5pm.

Any witnesses with information that could assist the police investigation are asked to come forward.

In particular, officers want to hear from anyone who saw the collision, or the VW Passat prior to the collision, or has any relevant dashcam footage.
