Look out for this unusual continental silver and enamel box c.1920 from Highland Antiques from Aberdeen. The 8.5cm long box in stunningly beautiful, with a picture of a Spaniel in 3-D colours. It is enamelling at its best and the piece is hallmarked with a town mark too. It is a great collectors’ piece in very good condition and on sale at £1,250.

A wide range of fascinating items will be offered by other businesses at the antiques fair, who will come from Scotland, Kent and across the country.

Richard and Susan Galloway of Galloway Antiques have become specialists in organising quality antiques and fine art fairs in some of the country’s finest stately homes over the last 30 years.

A great day out

Susan explained: “Duncombe Park is a beautiful stately home, with lovely grounds and gardens to explore, and is not usually open to the public. So this is a great opportunity to look in the servants quarters downstairs, where we are holding the antiques fair, and also the staterooms and bedrooms upstairs. They will all be open for antiques fair visitors.”

Duncombe Park is one of Yorkshire’s foremost historic houses and estates, which is home to the Duncombe family. The original house was built in 1713 for Thomas Duncombe and remodelled after a fire in 1879.

After the death of the second Earl of Feversham at the Battle of the Somme, it was leased as a girls’ before becoming a family home again in 1985. It is set in 300 acres of parkland just three minutes from the centre of picturesque Helmsley.
