Scarborough Netball League Division 2 leaders Phoenix prove too strong for LDW
Umpired by Lesley Richardson and Jenny Simpson, Phoenix won the toss, took the first centre and set the tempo for the game with a quick goal. Deanne Leng then got LDW on the scoreboard.
Great linking play between Phoenix’s Centre and Wing Attack, despite numerous interceptions by LDW’s Goal Keeper Harriet Fawley, saw them end the quarter leading 16-5.

LDW debutant Anna Greening got into her stride in the third quarter and made some great interceptions to disrupt Phoenix’s play, which earned her the player of the match.
The goal of the match came in this quarter, with LDW wing attack Lynda Rowley creating a great pass into Deanne Leng on the edge of the circle, who in turn scored the goal without the ball touching the rim sides.
The score going into the final quarter was 35-14 to Phoenix, but LDW’s heads never went down. Lisa Stubbings moved to Wing Defence to help stop Phoenix’s attack and Goal Shooter, Lynda Calvert capitalised on short passing around the goal circle to seal the win.
Player of the match for Phoenix was Sarah Watts.
