Belt hit two rounds of 67 in the event, sponsored by PXG Fitter, at Hull Golf Club, which saw the top golfers in Yorkshire lock horns in the 36-hole championship in very wet and windy conditions.

At the halfway stage of the competition, Belt (pictured above with the trophy) led by a shot from Michael Ramsden of Renishaw Golf Club, Sheffield, and he ended up four shots clear of runner-up David Padgett of Pannal Golf Club, thanks to his six-under-par total of 134.

A delighted Belt, speaking shortly after his victory at the Hull club, said: “This is the third time that I’ve won the Yorkshire PGA Championship, and I was very happy to get the win, particularly in the poor weather conditions we had to play in.

“I’m very happy that I’m able to still perform at a high level and coach at the same time.

“To be able to back up what I preach is definitely something that keeps me motivated to perform.”

Former St Augustine's School pupil Belt, who now runs his own mentorship scheme for golfers, was in superb form throughout his two rounds, hitting eight birdies, and earned a £750 cheque for claiming first place.
