SATURDAY LEAGUE: Newlands sink Seamer, Sleights win derby

Sean Exley scored a brace for Newlands, with Jamie Gallagher, youngster Brad Rowley and sub Dan Freer also on target, Rob Speight replying for the hosts.

Whitby Fishermen went ahead in the first minute of their derby at Sleights, with Paul Jobling on target.

Callum Ogden was sent off for the visitors after only 10 minutes, but Mark Storr’s men dug deep and it took until the 80th minute for the hosts to level through Ryan Roe’s stooping header from a corner.

In the final minute a superb solo run from Ben Watson was capped by a fierce shot rifled into the roof of the net from an acute angle to snatch the points for the villagers.

Ed Turner was the Sleights man of the match.

West Pier earned a 5-2 home win against Cayton Corinthians.

The hosts raced into a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes thanks to a Billy Logan hat-trick, Cayton pulling a goal back before half-time through a Harry Holden header.

Holden made it 3-2 with an identical goal to give Pier a few nervy moments, but Neil Thomas finished well to make it 4-2 and Martin Cooper’s late effort sealed the win for Pier.

In Division Two, Filey Town Reserves battled back from a goal down three times to earn a 3-3 draw at home to Edgehill Reserves.

The visitors went ahead only for Joe Gage to level for Town from eight yards, but Martyn Ferrey’s side restored their lead before the break.

Martin Cappleman headed in the second equaliser from a David Brannan corner, but again Edgehill went in front only for Scott Sheldon to round the keeper and earn his side a share of the spoils.

Young centre-back Brandon Catherall was the Town man of the match.

In DivisionThree, Eastway Sports banged in nine goals without reply at home to league newcomers Filey Town 3rds.

Eric Hall smashed in a hat-trick for the hosts, while John Grayston and Mark Craven banged in a brace apiece, goals from Nathan Till and Matty Dennis completing the rout.

Till and Corey White shared the star man award for the victors.

Sleights celebrate Ryan Roe's late equaliser

FC Rosette also maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with a hard-earned 4-1 home derby win against Scalby Reserves.

The visitors started brightly and took the lead through a Darren Walters penalty in the 10th minute, after the latter had been fouled in the area.

The hosts levelled 10 minutes before the interval through Jamie Wray’s diving header, and went ahead on 65 minutes when Martin Hadrick forced the ball home following a corner.

Sub Lee Major and Jamie Wray added further goals to seal Rosette’s win.

Stand-in keeper Grant Elwell and centre-back Nic Wheatman impressed for Scalby.

Centre-back Jonny Blackburn played superbly for Rosette, as did brothers Jamie and Al Wray.

Itis Itis Rovers earned a 2-2 draw at Hunmanby United Reserves, maintaining their unbeaten start to life in the league.
