Snainton and Bagby & Balk served up a thrilling 5-5 draw to start the New Year with a bang in Beckett League Division One.

Snainton started well and went ahead when Dan Simpson fed Joe Milner to finish, and a few minutes later it was 2-0 to the hosts, after good work from Alfie Roberts and Neil Fryirs, Rob Holt had a strike from the edge of the box that was deflected on its way into the net, writes Keith Sales.

The home side seemed to be cruising at this stage but were brought down to earth with a bang when Bagby broke through and finished well with a superb goal scored by Henry Fisher after good work by Reece Windle.

Five minutes into the second half Bagby took the lead, a great cross by Alex Benson found Fisher whose header beat home keeper Poor.

After a mad 10 minutes, the hosts started to apply some pressure again and after a good run from Rob Holt, the ball broke to Fryirs who found the bottom corner from the edge of the box. A moment later, good work from Regan Hewitt and Joe Milner found Simpson at the back post to make it 4-4.

With the momentum now with Snainton it was against the run of play that Bagby regained the lead with a great solo goal from Ollie Spence.

Ryan Matson came off the bench and rescued a point at the death with a fantastic controlled curling effort from just inside the penalty area that lobbed the Bagby keeper.

Man of the Match was shared by both sets of players for producing such an exciting game.

The away side dusted themselves down and tried to go again but they went 3-1 down on 71 minutes when sub Steven Carter netted.

At this point in the game Kirkdale went for all-out attack, Rob Galtrey rounded the keeper but managed to fizz the ball across the box to Glen Forrester who cut back for an onrushing Jordan Green to pick the right corner.

This gave Kirkdale a huge boost and Galtrey lashed a ball towards goal from the right of the box and sub Sean Murray headed into the net for a fine equaliser.

Kirkdale’s man of the match was Euan Surgenor.

Ryedale Sports Club’s home derby against Thornton le Dale also ended in a draw, the teams locked at 2-2 after 90 minutes.

Due to the inclement weather Rosedale’s home Gordon Harrison Memorial Trophy fixture was swapped to Goal Sports.

Rosedale got off to a good start on seven minutes as Alastair Wilkinson fed Shawn Spozio who ran through and finished neatly with his left foot.

The visitors went 2-0 up on 36 minutes when Josh Butler took a quick free-kick to Tom Grainger who fired a cross which went in off the far post.

The second half was a different affair as Goal Sports’ Ronan Ohanrahan continued his scoring form in the 47th minute.

Then Rosedale keeper Adam Durrant would go off injured leaving midfielder Ryan Hewison to take up the gloves. Robin Wilkinson making his season debut was unlucky not to score with an ambitious lob effort on the volley late on for Rosedale.

For Goal Sports, a great performance against first division opposition if not the result they had hoped for.

Man of the Match winners were centre-backs Tom Bell (Rosedale), and Curtis Foreman (Goal-Sports).

In the Ryedale Hospital Cup, second division leaders The Valley, with a much changed side, entertained first division Ayton.

The visitors made a flying start as Eric Hall put them ahead after five minutes with a shot in off the post from the edge of the box.

Valley had a few chances after this but Ayton were solid at the back well organised by debutant 16-year-old goalkeeper Harry Pinder, who went on to get the Man of the Match award for an impressive first game.

Club stalwart James Cooke finished well from 30 yards with a left foot screamer into the top corner and another goal from hot-shot Hall who missed several easy chances in the second half completed the 3-0 win for Ayton.

Valley’s Man of the Match award was shared by veteran Dan Maw and Adam Hartmann.
