Bridlington Town look to kick-start season with win at Long Eaton United

The original game, which was due to be played in December, was one of two fixtures to the Nottingham area called off due to the Baltic conditions, writes Ben Edwards.

The Seasiders need a response to their torrid start to the New Year, which has seen them follow up a 5-2 away defeat to Grimsby Borough with a 3-1 loss against Lincoln United.

The result saw Lincoln United leapfrog Bridlington Town in the league table due to a greater goal difference, of which the Seasiders have the third worst in the division at -17.

Similarly, Tuesday’s opponents will go above Bridlington if they earn at least a draw, as they sit on 24 points, one position and one point behind us, with significantly better goal difference.

It’s one of two away games for Bridlington Town this week, as they will follow it up with an incredibly tough trip to top-of-the-table Worksop Town on Saturday, so a result against Long Eaton is essential.

As for the hosts, they are winless in their last two games, losing 3-2 away to Sheffield before drawing 1-1 against Carlton Town in their opening game of the year. Prior to that, however, they had won their previous four games.

Blues fans missed out on their football fix on Saturday, as Long Eaton United’s away tie against Grantham Town was postponed due to the rainfall. It means that going into Tuesday’s game, it will be over a week since Ian Deakin’s side last played.

The two sides faced off in the opening day of the Northern Premier League at Queensgate, where Kameron Campbell cancelled out Lewis Dennison’s early headed goal.

Long Eaton were reduced to 10 men after 77 minutes due to Brad Wilson’s bad challenge on substitute Matt Broadley, but Bridlington Town weren’t able to find a winner in the final stages of the game.
