ADAM LYTH: Kane bows out in style as Rooty and Ballance shine

The newly revamped format of three games in eight days in Scarborough was brilliant.

Everyone enjoyed it. The players, we had great support and they seemed to enjoy it and we also got two good results as well.

Hats off to everyone associated with both Yorkshire and Scarborough, they organised a superb festival this year.

They timed it perfectly and it worked really well.

It’s great for the players as well as the fans and the town of Scarborough itself.

I was disappointed not to get past the new ball spell in the first innings against Sussex.

I managed to get myself in and batted pretty well in the second innings though.

Chasing 106 can be tricky if you lose early wickets, so it was important to start well.

Kane Williamson batted superbly in his last home game for us before he leaves the UK.

He was really keen to get a 100 for us before leaving and he did that in style.

It was a great knock from a great player and he showed just what a class act he is.

It is a great shame that he will be leaving us with two games to go in the Championship, especially with them being huge games against Nottinghamshire and Somerset.

Hopefully we can get Kane back at the club next season. He’s a superb player and it would be great if he could play for Yorkshire for years to come.

There are a lot of rumours that we’ll be getting our England boys, Joe Root and Gary Ballance, back in for those two crucial games.

Obviously nothing has been confirmed yet, but to have them back in would be a huge boost to our squad right at the end of the season.

They’ve both been in incredible form with the bat for England in their 3-1 series win against India.

They both scored over 500 runs across the series, which is a fantastic achievement.

Rooty has been outstanding for England for a long period now, and Gary has made that number three spot his own.

I said from the beginning of the series in this column, even after the poor start we made, that England would have too much over the course of a five-Test series for India, especially in English conditions, and that has proved to be the case.

If the Sri Lanka series had been over five games, I think the outcome would have been very similar.

Coming back to Yorkshire though, we have some huge games coming up now and we need to carry our momentum from a great week in Scarborough into our next few games and finish the season as strongly as possible.

There is a great atmosphere among the squad at the moment and all the lads are playing great cricket this season.

Nobody is getting carried away though.

We have to take it one game, one day, and one session at a time and produce our consistent, best cricket to ensure we lift the Championship trophy at the end of the season.

One thing is for certain, we will be giving it our all in every single game in both the Championship and the Royal London One Day Cup.

We have a strong squad and we’re all feeling confident.

We can’t mention the Scarborough Cricket Festival without paying tribute to groundsman John Dodds.

The work he did on Monday to get the ground ready for play on time was outstanding.

The outfield was quick and the pitch, as always, offered something for both batsmen and bowlers.

There’s always good pace and bounce in the wicket at Scarborough.

There’s always something in the pitch for bowlers early on, but if you get yourself in you can really cash in and get some big runs.

That’s why you see a lot of teams losing early wickets and struggle two or three wickets down in the first session.

Luke Wright showed just how to play at North Marine Road and when the ball was a bit softer and had stopped doing all sorts, he batted superbly.

John did a great job on the pitch though and deserves all the credit he gets.
