Plans for new Filey homes set for go-ahead - despite objections

Ava Holdings has lodged plan for outline permission for the development on land at Brigg Road, near to an existing caravan park.

As part of the scheme, six of the homes would be classed as affordable.

The applicant states that is vision is to provide “42 high-quality new homes in a well-connected location to the south of Filey”.

The application has not proved popular with local residents, however, with 55 people objecting alongside Filey Town Council and ward councillor Mike Cockerill.

Concerns raised include the proximity of the development to a railway line and concerns about drainage and flooding.

Scarborough Council’s planning committee will meet on Thursday to discuss the scheme with officers recommending that approval is granted.

A report prepared for the committee states: “The relationship between the proposed dwellings and the railway is not different to the close relationships between railways and houses in many town and village settings throughout the Borough and is in no way unusual or extraordinary.

“Indeed, many of the dwellings on the adjacent Brigg Road back directly onto railway land, and officers have not been made aware of any specific problems in the locality in this respect.”

The report adds that neither Yorkshire Water and lead the local flood authority have raised over concerns over water drainage and flooding on the site.

There has also been no objection from the Highway Authority.
