Whitby’s 10th White Lily Ball proved another success, with £3,300 raised on the night for Saint Catherine’s, Butterwick Hospice and Zoe’s Place.

This year’s event, held in memory of Janet and David Mothersdale, took place at the The Royal Hotel in Whitby.

Organiser Lucy Mothersdale said: “The venue was absolutely faultless and everyone had a great night, despite the financial difficulties faced by all.

"At present we raised just short of £3,300. We are absolutely thrilled!

“The auction lot from blacksmith Katie Ventress, an ammonite, was very popular and added a big chunk of cash to the pot.

“We have been amazed and so grateful to all the individuals and local businesses who donated to this year's ball, there are too many to list which is incredibly humbling.

"We cannot thank everyone enough for enabling White Lily to be in its 10th year with around £54,000 raised in that time for our struggling three hospices.

“Each hospice is finding this year so difficult as donations are low and people just don't have the spare cash to donate.

"Following Covid, they had been excited to start a new year with excitement only to be hit with the increased cost of living to contend with.

"Funds have never been needed more.”

There will be no White Lily Ball next year as Lucy and her co-organiser Emma Ward take a break – but the good news is they will be back refreshed in spring 2024.

They haven't ruled out other events taking place next year.

Lucy thanks The Royal Hotel, Emma Ward and John Kaiser for being a great help, especially with hospice runs.
