Thirty pupils from five Yorkshire Coast Education Partnership schools in the Whitby area came together at Sneaton Castle, in an event to champion pupil leadership.

The partnership’s training event provided a chance for everyone to excel and for all pupils schools to be a leader.

Youngsters from Sleights, Seton, Ruswarp, Hawsker and Fylingdales were all represented.

The day focused on developing pupils' leadership skills, with each school represented by groups of pupil leaders, each responsible for an aspect of their own school's work.

The day began with an introduction from Whitby Mayor, Coun Bob Dalrymple, who talked to the children about his role and being the leader of the council, before a question and answer session.

The children's questions were excellent.

Kevin Hann, ex-Wing Commander of the Royal Air Force, led some excellent training, focused on building teams and creating leaders.

Children made some superb contributions in response to the high-quality training and challenge provided by Mr Hann.

Pupils from across the partner schools then mixed together to create teams.

In these groups, children then took part in a series of challenges and activities, each focused on developing leadership across teams.

The youngsters’ engagement, enthusiasm and critical thinking were exceptional – they carefully debriefed each of their activities and identified their key learning.

In the afternoon, pupils carried out an art activity, led by one of the Partnership Art Specialists, Zoe Taylor.

As leaders across the Yorkshire Coast Education Partnership, the pupil leaders will now teach the activity back in school.

This caused great excitement!

Organisers thank Sneaton Castle for providing the venue, the Mayor, Kevin Hann and Zoe Taylor.
