The annual Dragon Boat racing returned to North Yorkshire Water Park this weekend after last year’s success.

On Sunday June 18, 21 teams paddled in 12 metre dragon boats to raise funds for a chosen charity, with near 2,000 people in attendance.

There was a series of races, and a grand final in the afternoon.

George Roberts, President of the Cavaliers Rotary, said: “The 2023 race was a greatly attended event, it was a pleasure to see so many families come to support the paddlers who were eagerly raising funds for their nominated charities.

“It was also a pleasure to receive support on the day from the Scarborough Sea Cadet & Royal Marine Cadets, Scarborough Inner Wheel and other friends of the cavaliers who helped the day run smoothly.

“Also the support of the Dawnay Estates and North Yorkshire Water Park has been invaluable and we look forward to making preparations for next years event.”

Councillor John Richie, the town’s first Charter Mayor, started the first race at 10am.

The minor final winners were Barefoot Superheroes; followed by Anglo American Warriors and Rafltac Blazing Paddlers team A.

The overall winner for the entire event was Barons Health and Fitness; runners up Fashionable Fitness and Raflatac Blazing Paddlers Team B.

Charities nominated to benefit by these teams were Alzheimer's Research; Great North Air Ambulance, Zoe's Place, St Catherine's; SASH; West Way Open Arms and Andy's Man Club.

People from across the Yorkshire coast came together to enjoy a day of Dragon Boat racing at North Yorkshire Water Park.

Photographer Richard Ponter went along to capture images from the day.
