High Sheriff of East Riding of Yorkshire 'had the most amazing visit' at Bridlington RNLI

Recently Bridlington RNLI welcomed the High Sheriff of the East Riding of Yorkshire, Tina Cerutti, for an extensive tour of the Bridlington Lifeboat Station.

Ms Cerutti was welcomed by station Coxswain Steve Emmerson and station president Richard Dunk. They showed Ms Cerutti around both boats, the crews room and changing rooms, as well as giving in-depth information about the running of the station and volunteer roles within the RNLI.

The position of High Sheriff of East Yorkshire is, like the majority of RNLI personnel, a voluntary role which dates to Saxon times when the ‘Shire Reeve’ was responsible to the King for the maintenance of law and order within the shire.

Whilst the duties of the role have evolved over time, supporting the Crown and the judiciary remain central elements of the role today.

In addition, High Sheriffs actively lend support and encouragement to crime prevention agencies, the emergency services and to the voluntary sector. High Sheriffs receive no remuneration and no part of the expense of a High Sheriff’s year falls on the public purse.

A spokesperson for the RNLI said: “It was an honour to show the current High Sheriff of the East Riding of Yorkshire around the station, who took a great interest in the work of the volunteers at Bridlington RNLI and the equipment and boats used within the station.”

Ms Cerutti said “I had the most amazing visit to Bridlington RNLI and was amazed by the work of the volunteers. The words brave, caring, dedicated are not enough to describe the work done by the volunteers”.
