The man, aged in his mid-30s, lived locally. His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Due to the darkness, the nearby area was cordoned off overnight to allow a day-time search to be conducted.

North Yorkshire Police said there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances, however, the death is being treated as unexplained.

A report is being compiled for the coroner as the investigation continues.
