Mike began working in the travel industry in 1979, selling tickets to New York on Freddie Laker’s Skytrain. A spell in New Zealand broadened his horizons before a return to the UK and work with Thomas Cook.
Before long, he decided he wanted to pursue his love of Snowsports and set up the website Born2Ski. Now, he is using his range of experience to open a travel agency selling all types of holidays across the world.
He said: “I am here for those who, like me, want to speak to a real person when spending their hard-earned money on a holiday. We are NOT a Call Centre. When it is face-to-face, you find out what a customer really wants, whether that is relaxing on a beach, enjoying walks or seeing the sights.”
Holidays for everyone
The newly-opened Born2Travel will cater for anyone in the Filey area who wants that personal touch and expertise when booking a trip, big or small.
And Mike says the demand has never been stronger: “Since Covid, people are wanting to travel more than ever. There were three years when getting abroad was difficult, so the desire to get back out there has grown.”
As with all industries, travel is changing and Mike points to Cruises which are now attracting more and more families, especially with Disney running their own experiences and local departures from locations such as Newcastle and Liverpool.
Long-haul is becoming more sophisticated with specialist operators offering guided tours across the globe with Japan New Zealand and Australia popular destinations.
But Mike says that the UK-market is also seeing more interest– from white-water rafting in Wales, to walking in the Lake District and coach breaks in the UK with Shearings and stays at Hoseasons UK Holiday Parks.
He added: “Because I have been in the industry so long, I know all the suppliers and can connect people with destinations and experiences they will remember for a lifetime.”
Born2Ski
Born2Ski is still a mainstay of Mike’s business.
Combining his experience with a passion for Snowsport holidays, he offers skiers and snowboarders holidays across the world including Europe, North America, Japan and New Zealand.
Having travelled extensively and visited most of the major ski resorts in Europe, North America, Japan and New Zealand, Mike can give personal recommendations which have been validated by the high level of repeat business and customer endorsements he has received.
