Following a complete refurbishment, which includes a brand-new extension, the offering at SPAR Stakesby and its Shell forecourt has been transformed with the local community in mind.

Seasonal tourists visiting Whitby and the wider North Yorkshire area will also reap the benefits of the improved store which now has a Graham Eyes butchers counter and a Clayton Park Deli.

Customers’ needs are also catered for with a significant revamp of the SPAR store’s refreshment options with a Cheeky Coffee unit now installed in-store. This sits alongside popular Fanta Frozen and Tango Ice Blast machines.

The complete refurbishment has seen new energy efficient refrigeration fitted, while the store’s green credentials have also been improved with the addition of LED lighting throughout the store, enhancing the shopping experience too.

Outside the store, a new SPAR fascia has been added, and the popular Shell forecourt has had a makeover for those seeking to fill up their vehicles as well as shop.

Anticipation and excitement have been building ahead of the relaunch this month, and Mayor of Whitby Cllr Linda Wild is scheduled to cut the ribbon to reopen the store at 11am on the day.

Special offers and family fun day

The first 50 customers through the doors will get their ‘tea for free’ and residents locally will be receiving ‘£5 off a £15 shop’ SPAR money-off coupons through the post in advance of the store opening.

Supporting the reopening is a Family Fun Day on Saturday 25th March between 11am and 1pm. Customers can enjoy free samples, stalls, facepainting and more on the day.

A raffle will also be held with the feature prize being a Prime Hydration Drink giveaway with each of the popular flavours including blue raspberry, ice pop, tropical punch, and lemon lime part of the main prize. Money raised from the raffle will go to the RNLI.

Community first

Community has been put at the heart of the SPAR Stakesby reopening. In the build up to the launch day, SPAR has already agreed to a separate donation to the RNLI, supporting the charity’s running costs in keeping people safe along the North Yorkshire coastline. Along with an on-going partnership with the local station to ensure that the store is able to continue to support such a vital community service.
