Developers of Webb Ellis Court, on the site of the former rugby ground, say it is aimed at maximising independence for over 55s who need ongoing care, such as those with health conditions and the elderly. Created by Home Group, it has 31 two-bed and 32 one-bed apartments, plus a café, restaurant, guest accommodation, a hair and beauty salon, and space for local community groups to use. The name is a nod to the rugby connection: William Webb Ellis was the supposed inventor of rugby football, when he picked up the ball and ran with it, at Rugby School in 1823.
