Village set for scarecrow festival

BURTON AGNES will have a few extra residents next week as it prepares to stage its second scarecrow festival.

The event has been organised by five girls, The Play Park Chicks, as part of the Lifestyle project and with the money raised they plan to buy a teenage shelter for the village.

Sammy Kirk, Christina Daniels, Katie Joyce, Sophie Leighton and Megan Colman, all 13, took part in the project last year and raised 3,000, which they gave to the Burton Agnes Committee for a play park.

Now they are looking to make this year's event just as successful, having won a trip to Wales as a prize for their efforts last year.

Visitors attending the scarecrow festival, which runs from Sunday until August 7, will be able to park in Burton Agnes Hall car park and buy a map of the village for 1.

There will also be a prize draw, a children's quiz about scarecrows and Burton Agnes and villagers will be putting on a tombola and providing refreshments.
