For the past decade, Coastival has packed out one weekend each February with a mix of music, theatre, crafts, comedy, dance, fine arts and more.

Now there are plans to spread the Coastival fun right across the year, with several mini festivals.

However, families looking to brighten up February will not be disappointed. A revamped Family Coastival will take place at Scarborough Spa on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February with an array of workshops and entertainment for children and young people – all completely free!

Highlights include the chance to learn Brazilian and flamenco dance moves, carnival drumming, cardboard engineering, crafts, drama and lots more.

Coastival is produced by Scarborough-based Create Arts Development. New Create director Emma Hallam said: “We are planning to build upon all of Coastival’s fine traditions and extend the festival across the whole year. As well as February’s Family Coastival, we are already planning our Visual Arts Coastival for the autumn."
