Little Shop of Horrors a charming, kooky and hilarious 1950s musical sci-fi spoof is the latest musical announced by the Spa, Bridlington.
The announcement follows other touring musicals at the venue; Footloose was a sell-out success earlier this month, HMS Pinafore arrives in May and Green Day’s American Idiot in June.
Little Shop of Horrors is the story of Seymour Krelborn, the assistant at Mushnik’s Flower Shop in downtrodden Skid Row.
He becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers a strange and exotic plant. He names it Audrey Two in order to impress glamorous Audrey, the colleague he’s secretly in love with.
Audrey Two quickly starts to wilt, putting Seymour’s job and dream future with Audrey at risk.
Accidentally pricking his finger, Seymour discovers Audrey Two needs a little more than plant food to thrive.
The plant grows into a bad-tempered, foul-mouthed carnivore whose voracious appetite becomes increasingly difficult to satisfy. How far will Seymour go for the woman of his dreams?
With music by Alan Menken, best known for his numerous Walt Disney film scores, Little Shop of Horrors is a cult film and one of the longest running off-Broadway shows of all time.
Andrew Aldis, general manager of the Spa, Bridlington, said, “We are delighted to welcome back our friends from Sell a Door Theatre Company for this enormously popular musical favourite.
“Our programme of touring musicals is going from strength to strength; and we’ll continue to develop our offering as we move closer to Hull UK’s City of Culture 2017”
Presented by Sell a Door Theatre Company which has previous toured critically-acclaimed productions of Avenue Q, The History Boys, American Idiot and Seussical the Musical.
Little Shop of Horrors is on Tuesday October 11 to Saturday October 15, daily at 7.30pm and a Wednesday matinee at 2.30pm.
Ameila Lily returns to the Spa Bridlington, having played the role of Narrator in Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, in An American Idiot.
She said: “I’m so excited to be returning to the Spa Theatre in Bridlington. It’s such a wonderful theatre and I can’t wait to bring American Idiot there.”
American Idiot has won five Broadway World UK Awards and received seven WhatsOnStage Award nominations, including a nomination for Best Musical Revival, Best Direction and Best Choreography, as well as a number of nominations and awards for cast members.
It runs from June 7 to 11.
