The Spa Bridlington cemented its reputation as a great concert venue when The Script wowed a sell-out crowd.
The venue was buzzing as the Irish band performed hit after hit to adoring fans in a near 90-minute set on Friday. Frontman Danny O’ Donoghue was the voice of love for Bridlington as he told the 3,800 fans they were making as much noise as five times their number.
To a great roar from the crowd, he shouted: “You are awesome.”
From the moment the band took to the stage, following a great performance by support act Stooshe, the atmosphere was electric.
Danny has enormous stage presence and the gig featured great interaction with the crowd throughout, with the singer telling fans how delighted he was to be back in Yorkshire and drinking Yorkshire Tea!
Fans had travelled from all over the country to be at such an intimate concert and many were spending the weekend in town, providing a boost to the local economy.
And some concert-goers got really up close and personal with Danny when he walked into the crowd on the balcony to perform. After the gig scores of fans waited for several hours for a chance to catch the band before they left on their tour bus.
They were rewarded for their patience when Danny, guitarist Mark Sheehan and drummer Glen Power spent a long time signing autographs and posing for pictures.
Andrew Aldis, general manager of The Spa Bridlington, said: “This is the second sold out concert in as many weeks, wherefans get to see big names in an intimate venue where they are never more than 25 metres away from the stage.
“The show provided a boost for hoteliers and the local economy and is another example of the Spa’s commitment to the Great Bridlington brand.”
