Music fans are set for a treat after Michael Bolton was confirmed to play his only scheduled UK gig in 2015 in Burton Agnes.
The American singer and songwriter, real name Michael Bolotin, is scheduled to perform on 1 August at the Bluebell Hotel in front of an expected sold out crowd.
Owner of the Bluebell Hotel Alan Wilson said: “It is unbelievable that we have managed to attract such a global superstar to play in little Burton Agnes.
“It is a fantastic coup and I would class him as the biggest act to ever perform in East Yorkshire.”
The 62-year-old originally performed in the hard rock and heavy metal genres from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s, both on his early solo albums and those he recorded as the frontman of the band Blackjack.
Bolton became better known for his series of rock ballads following a style change in the late 1980s.
He sold more than 75 million records and has recorded eight top 10 albums and two number one singles on the Billboard charts, as well as winning multiple American Music Awards and Grammy Awards.
Mr Wilson said: “He is going to rock the area and it is certainly exciting news for everyone.
“We are so pleased to have him coming to the Bluebell and I cannot wait for the concert.
“Being the only confirmed gig for Michael Bolton in the UK so far, it means the event should attract people from all over which will only enhance the tourism over the summer.”
The album Time, Love & Tenderness, released in April 1991 was successful for Bolton, hitting number one, selling six million copies, and featuring four Top 40 hits, including a chart-topping cover of Percy Sledge’s “When a Man Loves a Woman” and the Top Ten hits “Love Is a Wonderful Thing” and “Time, Love and Tenderness.” The album sold more than 16 million copies worldwide.
Michael Bolton will be bringing some special guests with him to perform before himself and the Bluebell are also hoping to add to the lineup by giving a local act a chance to perform in front of a packed audience.
Mr Wilson said: “We like to promote local music and give those acts in the area an opportunity to showcase themselves on the big stage and see what they can do.”
Music acts are able to apply for the chance to perform before Michael Bolton by sending a cd of their music to the Bluebell Hotel, Main Road, Burton Agnes, YO25 4NG.
Tickets for the event on 1 August 2015 are available from 8am today (Thursday 16 April) by calling the Bluebell directly on 01262 490050 or by visiting the website on www.bluebellhotel.net. Ticket prices are £55 plus a £5 booking fee.
