Penny Whispers are guitarist and vocalist Harry Bullen and vocalist Terri-Ann Prendergast.

"We used to live on a ship, sailing around the world performing for thousands of people every night. After four years of touring, cabin fever cooked up a spicy punch of creative flair that this harmonic partnership have doused over their original songs," said Terri-Ann from Cayton.

"Penny Whispers capture the essence of the complex critical feelings felt in 2020’s life, with melodic definition and powerful hooks," she said.

Their debut single Stay a While was brought forward from the original release date.

With the current Covid- 19 crisis, the pair thought the world needed some joy now more than ever in these dark times.

"The song is totally relevant to the current situation, more than initially intended," said Terri-Ann.

“We wrote the song based on some close friends of ours that had gone through a really difficult time last year," said Harry, who appeared in shows at the YMCA and played in bands in the town.

"Everyone goes through extremely difficult periods of time but no one should have to do so alone. That's what the song captures- togetherness, having someone stand by your side to endure the good and the bad times.”

Since the stay-at-home rule was implemented, the song is more relevant than ever.

“All we can ever do is carry on, but no one should have to do it alone,” said Terri-Ann

The song has had positive feedback so far, gaining regional radio play on Yorkshire Coast Radio and Coast & County Radio. It was added to over 10 Spotify playlists in its first week including Music Discovery 2020 playlist.

One Penny Whispers supporter said: “This is just what we need in this awful situation- something to smile about and dance too! Literally cannot get it out my head!”

Terri-Ann said: "We can’t wait to get back out onto the Scarborough music scene playing their regular local venues such as The Merchant and The Waterhouse.

Stay a While is out now available to stream everywhere.
