WITH these two sides already promoted to the Premier Division for next season, this game was all about which team would go up as champions, the visitors going on to secure top spot after a convincing victory on the cliff top.
Winning the toss, Sewerby asked Acomb to bat first and despite a quick 29 from M Dale, Sewerby had them at 44 for 2 after 12 overs.
The change bowlers were unable to gain any further breakthroughs and a partnership of 85 between Andy Tute and Richard Sykes took them to 129 for 3 after 35 overs before Sykes was out for 42.
Tute was joined by J Halstead and they added 74 in 9 overs before Halstead was run out for 19. Tute was eventually out in the penultimate over for 91 with 9 fours and 3 sixes and Acomb closed on 226 for 7.
Wicket takers for Sewerby were Russ Robinson (3-79), and Aidy Long (3-66).
In reply Sewerby got off to the worst possible start losing leading run scorer Ben Dobson for one in only the second over.
Luke Jennison and Chris Chapman started to build the innings taking the score to 41 before Chapman was unlucky to be given out lbw having scored 22.
Jennison was out for 20 in the next over and two more quick wickets saw them slump to 49 for 5. Mike Artley and Rick Robinson took the score to 100 before Robinson was out for 24 and when Artley was out for 33 the total was 113 for 9.
A quick 15 from Matt Dandy helped them reach a final score of 132. For Acomb David Sykes took 4-21 and Joe Dale 4-55.
Victory gave Acomb the championship and on the evidence of this game it was well deserved.
