Bridlington RUFC YDO Sam Fox hails tournament and eyes friendly challenges
Bridlington RUFC Youth Development Officer Sam Fox has hailed last weekend’s touch tournament as well as previewing his side’s upcoming fixtures.
The tournament gave the players a chance to compete against each other, putting the last few weeks training into practice.
He said: “It was really good to get out there with the lads and we had great numbers that took part in the event.
“Obviously, the weather helped massively, but it’s really positive to see that we are moving in the right direction.
“There were about 50 players taking part in the competitive games and we all enjoyed having a beer after the game together.”
The proposed friendly fixtures begin on Saturday May15 with a home game against rivals Pocklington RUFC.
Brid are then on the road on Friday May 21 at Malton & Norton RFC followed by back to back home games against Scarborough RUFC and Novocastrians RUFC on Friday May 28 and Saturday August 14.
The fixtures finish on Friday August 20 when Fox’s side travel to Silver Royd to play against Scarborough.
“I’m really looking forward to the matches, considering I didn’t think we’d even get any rugby at all,” he added.
“We’re still looking at how the game will look like with all the restrictions in place, but hopefully the 2021-22 season will be a lot more normal.
“We could potentially treat this period as a longer pre-season for us all and it’s going to be important that we don’t introduce the players back to the action too soon.
“It’s all about the safety of the players and that’s the most important thing for us now.”
