The Volleyball England Beach Tour arrives in Bridlington this weekend for the fourth leg of the series.

The nation’s top beach volleyball players will be battling it out on Saturday and Sunday, trying to gain entry into the National Tour Finals in Margate later this month.

Organisers hope a number of former Olympic players and Great British internationals. will be among the teams.

Cllr Richard Burton, portfolio holder for civic wellbeing and culture, said: “We are delighted this event is nearly here and we look forward to welcoming some of the country’s elite beach volleyball players to Bridlington.

“This event fits perfectly with our Active Coast vision which aims to provide residents and visitors with the opportunity to take part in year-round leisure and cultural activity on the East Riding coastline.

“It also enables us to showcase our beautiful coastline and award-winning beaches while watching a premier sporting event.”

The event will take place between 9am and 5pm on both days with free entry to watch the matches, grandstand seating for viewing and a free prize draw for a signed volleyball from Ben Pipes, who was the Team GB captain at the 2012 Olympics.

On Saturday, Pipes will be conducting a free coaching clinic for all ages at 1.30pm on the Go Spike Beach Volleyball courts on the beach, providing guidance and an explanation of the rules.

There will be beach volleyball sessions for juniors every Wednesday in August, from 1pm to 3pm at Bridlington South Beach, near the foreshores office with taster sessions for adults every Thursday until September 1, from 6pm to 7pm below the Park and Ride.
