Bridlington director of rugby Rich Girking reacts to the 28-11 win over North Ribblesdale.

“We got the four points which were much needed.

“I thought we played fairly well in the first half but didn’t get the points we deserved.

“We made a few changes, Auryn Murray was back, Connor Williamson, who is an 18-year-old prop, was called up and Tom Kemp was back after three or four months out with a knee injury.

“The back line looked a lot more balanced and I thought we were as good as we have been for quite a few weeks.

“We generated a lot of quick ball and In thought we could have been 20 points up at half time, not 14-6. We scored a good try and with better decision-making, and a different referee who had sin-binned everyone who deserved to be, it could have been easier for us.

“But we started to panic a bit. They thought to themselves ‘we are only eight points behind’ and they took heart from that.

“For the next 20 minutes, they pulverised us. We were defending for our lives at 14-11 and held out for about 20 minutes and then we finished them off with two tries in the last 20 minutes.

“We made mistakes and didn’t clear our lines again which put us under pressure and the opposition took advantage of that, but we tackled well in midfield and scored three tries, although a bonus point for four tries was out of the question because two of our tries came so late on.

“Ribblesdale are scrapping for points, having had five deducted for an ineligible player, so it was a tough game and I’m glad to get the points and move up to eighth.”
