Bridlington Mariners entertained Ionians Ramblers on Saturday and were boosted with a full compliment of replacements when the third team’s game at Hornsea was cancelled.

An early exchange of penalties put the score at 3-3 but during this time, Bridlington lost Ben Lawry to a leg injury.

Soon afterwards, replacement scrum half Cameron Brown also went off and a re-shuffle was needed.

Bridlington rallied and had possession for most of the first half and only numerous try saving tackles by Daniel Kempton, guesting for the visitors, kept them out.

Just before the turn-around, the onslaught told and Matty Faulkener crossed the line with Josh Raynor adding the conversion to his earlier penalty to give the Mariners at 10-3 lead.

The pep-talk seemed to work for Ionians as they came out strongest after the break and recorded an unconverted try to reduce the deficit to two points.

However this was short-lived as the Mariners soon added two more tries by Aaron Barker and Jake Cooper. The conversions were both kicked by Raynor and Brid led 24-8.

More pressure by Ionians saw them go close but a full bodied tackle by Raynor saved the day.

With time nearly up, Scott Stevens sealed the win out wide in the corner. Raynor kicked the final conversion to win 31-8 and cap a flawless man of the match performance.
