Massive entry for Scarborough Races at Charm Park

Point-to-point fans will be heading to Charm Park this Sunday for the Derwent staging Scarborough Races at the Wykeham venue.

A massive 128 entries have been received with 39 of them in the final Open Maiden so it is highly likely that this will divide on the day.

Gates open at 11.30am and the first race is at 12.30pm, admission is £10 with under-16s getting in free.

It looks set to be a very competitive day of racing and also includes trade stands, bouncy castle, licensed bar and plenty of refreshments.

The postcode for Sat Nav for the meeting is YO13 9QU.

The opening race is a Hunts Conditions race, where for horses to run in this race they must prove they have been hunting with a Yorkshire pack a minimum of four times.

Super Lunar would easily qualify for this race and although solidly consistent last year may find one too good, the same can be said for Phil Greaves pair, however Neville Woods made a very below par return at the Sinnington.

It looks likely to be between Shantou Prince and Royal Chant, the latter made a pleasing return but is at his best on quicker ground, so it looks Shantou Princes race for the taking but was beat when falling on his most recent start at Wetherby.

Cup Final could be a threat if turning out again quickly after finishing second at Duncombe Park where he chased home the decent Black River.

Selection - Shantou Prince

The Restricted has attracted 17 entries and recent Sheriff Hutton winner Classical Lady looks the leading player here and made a good impact in a Brocklesby Restricted to finish second.

Dynamite Kentucky is another who broke his maiden this season and was only narrowly touched off last time at Alnwick, Jack Teals string is in fine form this season and he's probably the one to keep on side.

Lucky Hit broke her maiden at the second attempt but that was only a three runner maiden and will need to step up massively, similar thought apply to Manicman who won at Cottenham but it's yet to be seen how strong the form was.

Robins Legend has been looking regressive this season but a return to last years form could put him in with a chance, whilst Super Lunar could be more at his level here and should be ready to go after a hard campaign with the Middleton.

Teescomponents Boy was awarded his most recent race at Witton Castle and so is forced into Restricted, he is a likeable type and is brother to the useful Teescomponents Lad.

Selection - Dynamite Kentucky

The veteran race is now a qualifier for the Jockey Club and ROR final and is for 10-year-olds and up.

Alto Des Mottes was a once decent recruit for Harry Hogarth and was a close second in the Yorkshire National in his prime.

Crazy Jack was formerly a decent performer including winning the 2mile 4furlong race at Stratford Hunter Chase evening in 2018, his form has tailed off since and will need a revival, Cup Final put in another good effort at Duncombe Park but could have easier options on the card, whilst Mickey Millar bounced back to form last year and if continuing that could make the frame.

Minella Friend was previously a very competitive recruit in points, however he was well tailed off last time and will need to bounce back if hes going to figure, Monsieur Jourdain is well in to the veteran stage but he is a multiple Grimthorpe Gold Cup winner, he will have benefited from his run at Brocklesby and very much appreciates this track.

Sambremont was a very useful performer in Ireland in his prime and did well in Irish points, but put up a very laclustre effort on British debut back in December, whilst Six A Side could make a quick reappearance after staying on well to win at Duncombe Park on Saturday.

Selection - Monsieur Jourdain

The Mixed Open looks a real exciting contest with several very talented performers on display.

Absainte is a mare going places and she bolted up at Brocklesby Park last time, a sounder surface could see further progress.

Carter McKay was the very easy winner of a couple of hunter chases last season and could be very talented dropped in to this company, whilst Matts Commission was impressive when winning an Alnwick Open last time where he beat Path To Freedom and looks set to improve further.

Southern raider Petrou was a dual Open winner last season including this race last year and ended last season with a creditable fourth in a Cheltenham Hunter Chase.

Selection - Absainte

The Conditions race is run over 2m 4f and will no doubt suit those that prefer an easier trip. Shimla Dawn bolted up round here two years ago and was an easy Musselburgh Hunter Chase winner last season.

Olivers Gold could have his first run since leaving Mark Walfords yard, he is highly consistent and looks best suited over a shorter trip, the same can be said for Burrenbridge Hotel who should be noted on his first start for Jack Teal.

Karezak was a very useful juvenile when with Alan King but was absent for three years and hasn't found his form since returning,

Monbeg Chit Chat should be capable of better, whilst Signed And Sealed was the easy winner of his Restricted at Cottenham last time so this short trip should suit, however he will need to take a big step forward.

West Torr put up a better performance last time when third behind Matts Commission and his sole win under rules was over this trip.

Selection - Shimla Dawn

The last race is an Open Maiden and with 39 entries is most likely going to result in two divisions.

Will Easterbys debutant Ask The Question is worth keeping an eye on, Desirable Duchess is out of prolific winning mare Duchess Account but may be best watched on debut, whilst Jayhaaf is brother to impressive winner Bramble Vodka and half brother to last years Heart Of All England winner Hafajay.

Master Thyne is running well but may find one or two too strong, Poncherello was narrowly beaten on his last start in Ireland, whilst Onestepatatime has finished his races off strongly lately and looks sure to go close again.

The powerhouse yards when it comes to maiden are Roger Marley and Sophie Lacey, the latter trains four-year-old Grizzman who is related to a couple of placed hurdlers in France, whilst the former trains Illberidingshotgun who was picked up for £20,000 in Ireland and has an attractive pedigree.

Selection - Onestepatatime.
