Bridlington Golf Club’s Matty Raybould followed in his brother Nick’s footsteps by becoming East Riding Junior Champion last week at Hornsea.

The talented youngster played some very solid golf to eventually win the title by four shots from a group of players tied in second place, which included fellow Bridlington junior Henry Howarth.

The trophy was won by Nick last summer, but Matty returned two scores of 75 to finish on a very respectable 36-hole aggregate score of 150, which was six-over-par.

It was an excellent day for Bridlington Golf Club as two other members also won prizes, with Bradley Marshall and Mitchell Collins posting the second and third best nett scores.

The top sixteen gross scores from the championships qualify for the Junior Matchplay championship, and Raybould will be looking to once again emulate his brother by securing this title as well.

He will face some stiff opposition in the knockout competition and he could face club-mate Howarth in round two.

Raybould has had an exceptional year, so far representing both the East Riding Junior and Senior Teams as well as representing Yorkshire.
