Bridlington driver Ashley Marshall earns best-ever results at Knockhill
In last weekend’s Ginetta GT5 Challenge meeting at Knockhill, Bridlington’s Ashley Marshall started eighth for both races.
The Fox Motorsport driver qualified almost a second faster than he had done on his previous GT5 visits to Knockhill.
Contact early in Race One dropped him down the order, but he recovered strongly to finish 10th.
He then took a further step forward in Race Two, resisting intense pressure from behind to finish in eighth place and move up a spot to seventh in the points.
Marshall said: “Knockhill’s been a bit of a bogey track for me in the past so to come away with two top-10 results – the best finishes I’ve had there – is positive.
“The atmosphere in the team is great and we all try and help each other.”
The Bridlington driver added: “Looking at some of the other guys’ onboards, for example, has really helped me to find some extra speed.
“I was probably a bit too cautious in Race One and there was definitely a feeling that I needed to be a bit more assertive on Sunday, which I was.
“It paid off too because I was able to make a couple of good moves and come home with more good points.
“Donington’s next and it’s my favourite track, where I’ve been on the podium before, so I’m looking forward to it.”
A superbly-judged double win moved Fox Motorsport’s Ian Duggan clear in the battle for the Ginetta GT5 Challenge Am title at Knockhill, while a double podium for home hero Gordie Mutch kept him in contention for the Pro crown.
