Not even a rousing half-time speech by the Archbishop of York could inspire Bridlington RUFC to victory over league leaders Bradford & Bingley.
Dr John Sentamu enjoyed a pre-match meal at Dukes Park, and addressed diners about his days playing rugby, before watching the game of the day in Yorkshire One.
Bridlington found themselves 10-6 behind at half-time and the archbishop strode on to the pitch with a microphone during the break to urge the home supporters to make more noise and get behind their team.
But the hosts were unable to get on the scorsheet in the second half and Bradford & Bingley stretched their lead at the top of the table, eventually winning 17-6. Find out what the special guest made of the game in Thursday’s Free Press.
