With his team top of Yorkshire League Division Three, Bridlington captain Paul Robinson feels he is spoilt for choice when it comes to picking men for the club’s first team.
Robinson has Jack Torbett, CK Yew, Shaun Fell, H Giddins, Dan Gration, Leo Yong, Tia Lee and Liam Whittington all pushing for places.
He said: “The players are improving because of the Yorkshire League practices held at sports centre and matches we play at York. Myself, Nigel Fell and Ed Fox are veterans who have years and years of badminton experience and to be still playing at our age at a high standard shows how dedicated we have to be to keep fit.
“It’s nice to be having the youngsters pushing us for places, which they should be at our age. We need young blood in our team.
“I do worry about the ladies. We have some very good veteran ladies like Jo Robinson, Kate Manson, Helen Browne, Claire Park, Justine Beadnall and Wendy Goode, who have served us really well through the years in the Yorkshire League and are still playing well in a tough league.
“Not many young ladies are coming through, though. Becky Zipfell is only young lady I can think of who is Yorkshire League standard.
“Young players, your goal should be to represent Bridlington in Yorkshire League. It’s a very proud moment and will only improve your game.
