Wood keeps lead after Summer League race

Bridlington Road Runners were once again out in force for the East Hull Harriers Summer League at the Coniston 10K, making up a fifth of the whole field.

On this occasion, Phill Taylor (33:23) was beaten into second place by Steve Bateson of East Hull. Next home was Danny Brunton who was sixth in 35:49, and Nick Hellewell was not far behind in eighth position in 36:10.After him came Martin Smith (17th) 38:09, John Nolan (20th) 38:52 and Simon Ellerker (39:38).

The first Brid woman to finish was Emma Brown (37th) 41:13 followed by Sarah Wood (41st) 42:02 and Cathy Wood (54th) 43:28.

Prize winners on the night were Taylor, Janet Potter (78th) 46:29 (1st F55) and Judy Allison (86th) 47:20 (1st F60), while Cathy Wood was the winner of the handicap on the night and remains overall handicap leader after six races.

The Humber Bridge Half Marathon is usually accompanied by a hot day and Sunday’s temperatures crept up for this race.

In a field of over 1,500 finishers, Cathy Wood was the first of the Bridlington contingent home in 176th place with a gun time of 1:38:41.

Next to finish was Simon Porter in 397th position with 1:46:23 and, just behind Porter, was Steve Frankish who was 399th in approx. 1:45:13.

Verona Petty was not far behind in 641st place with 1:54:07 and was followed by Kerry Whitehead, who was 825th in 1:59:07 and Julie Madden 1035th in 2:06:38.

In the Fun Run, Ashley Porter had a time of 17:00 and Ben Smith ran 19:49
