Leaders Bridlington 1sts extended their lead at the top of the Yorkshire Badminton League Division Three table with a comprehensive 9-0 win over Marske.

Paul Robinson and Nigel Fell were brilliant in the first men’s winning 21-5 21-7. Their defence and then counterattacking was too good for their opponents.

Robinson and Alex Verda had a real battle in the second game, eventually winning 21-15 21-18.

In the third men’s game, Fell and Verda were well down in the first game before they got their game together to win 21-19 21-14.

Helen Brown and Claire Park kicked off the ladies’ doubles by winning 21-14 21-7.

Brown and Jo Robinson then won 21-16 in a very tight first game, and they won 21-10 in the second game.

Park and Robinson teamed up to record a 21-7 21-15 win.

With Bridlington in an uncatchable position, Robinson and Park won 21-14 21-15 in the first mixed doubles.

Fell and Brown won their first set 21-10 then had a battle to win the match by taking the second set 21-18.

Rounding things off, Verda and Robinson were very impressive winning 21-7 21-6.

Captain Paul Robinson said: “The next four matches are going to be really tough and we have a few injuries with our first team ladies.

“The average age of our team is 41 so it’s unbelievable we are top of the table with most teams having a lot of younger and fitter and faster players.

“What we have is fantastic team spirit and bags of experience and plenty of determination and, of course, good ability.”
