Bridlington Hockey Club are hosting the 79th Easter Hockey Festival at Dukes Park this weekend.

The festival is being opened by the town’s mayor, Coun Shelagh Finlay, tomorrow when players from each of the teams are mixing up to play a ‘Fun Friday’ mixed tournament.

This is to encourage players to get to know each other and to get the festival off to an enjoyable start.

On Easter Saturday and Sunday, the festival branches off to a men’s and ladies’ seven-a-side tournament.

Bridlington ladies are defending their winners title from last year but they face competition from teams from Northallerton, Leicester and Whitby who will make it a challenge.

The festival’s regular visitors from Dunfermline will have teams from Bridlington, Driffield, Whitby and Sunderland to play against in the men’s competition.

Organiser Anne Hunter said: “The annual event brings tourism to Bridlington but is also a chance for old friends to meet up year after year, with new players experiencing grass hockey often for the first time.”

The festival finishes on Sunday afternoon with trophies being presented to the winners and runners up.
