Excitement is already growing in Bridlington following the announcement that the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire cycle event will start in the town with visitors already starting to book their accommodation.
Bookings are already coming in to the council’s South Cliff Caravan Park, which can offer space for touring caravans and camping cabins for up to six people, as well as fully equipped two and three bedroom caravans for visitors to the event wanting to use the Park as their base. Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of the council, said : “Hosting the start of the very first Tour de Yorkshire will be a truly historic day for Bridlington. “We are hoping that many visitors – and indeed residents – will want to come and see the superb attractions that the town has to offer, including the Spa Bridlington, and Sewerby Hall and Gardens.
“The television coverage that the event will generate will bring huge benefits to the local economy – we have seen the impact of the Tour de France in other parts of Yorkshire, and it’s clear that Bridlington and other parts of the East Riding should benefit in the same way.”
Alex Crutchley, senior facility manager at the South Cliff Caravan Park, said: “We have been delighted with the level of interest shown so far by potential visitors, given that the announcement was only made last week. We would advise anybody thinking of coming to stay with us that weekend to book early. We know that staying at campsites and in caravans was a hugely popular way to see the Tour de France last year.
“We will make the visitor experience for the Tour de Yorkshire truly memorable”.
