AFTER finishing third in 2009 and 2010, Paul Marchant clinched his first Bridlington Half Marathon win on Sunday.
The Rothwell Harriers runner crossed the line in 1:10:22, more than four minutes ahead of reigning champion Carl Ryde of Doncaster.
Third place went to Gareth Young of City of Hull, while Pocklington’s Helen Cross, the 2009 champion and 2010 runner-up, won the women’s race in 1:22:12, which put her 21st overall.
Bridlington’s best performers were Nick Hellewell in eighth, Peter Gulc in 12th and Cathy Wood, the fourth lady and 47th overall.
Bridlington Road Runners thank the police, Leisure World staff, St John Ambulance volunteers, Bridlington Rotary Club, the council’s foreshores team and the marshals for making the event run smoothly once again.
Race organiser Judy Allison said: “We had more marshals than ever before and they do a great job.
“Weather-wise, we had been a bit worried about how foggy it would be up at Bempton, but the visibility was actually better out of town.”
The club also thanked Sports Timing Solutions who operated chip timing at the half marathon for the first time.
