Both local swimming clubs were represented in the Yorkshire Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
Three girls from Bridlington Swimming Club competed at the annual county competition after Yasmin Brown, Katie Nicholson and Danielle Coverdale all managed to gain the required entry times.
Brown qualified for all five races and gained two personal bests, Nicholson qualified for two races, gaining a PB in her 100m freestyle and Coverdale qualified for the 100m freestyle and managed to improve her best time.
A club spokesman said: “Bridlington Swimming Club is proud to have coached some very talented swimmers over the years, some progressing to national level and beyond.”
The newly-formed Yorkshire Coast Swimming Club sent seven youngsters to Sheffield and head coach Juan Carlos Lino said: “With swimmers ageing from nine through to 15 years old having qualifying for numerous events, this was a really a great achievement for our club.
“More than anything, it’s really testament to the hard work and motivation of these swimmers that they are doing so well”.
“Swimmers achieved many personal best swims over the weekend and can be very proud of themselves, especially nine-year-old Joseph Moment, finalist in the 50m backstroke.”
He said the success was partly down to Bob Hewitt, Scarborough Rowing Club coach and former Team GB rower, who has been offering his expertise and kindly providing land and circuit training sessions to swimmers during the club’s first month – giving the added stamina, strength and flexibility needed for the pool.
