Last Sunday saw the fifth race in the East Yorkshire Cross Country League series, and it was the turn of Goole Vikings and Selby Striders to host the event.

The course weaved around the fields and woodland of the small but picturesque Village of Welton, but the rain which had fallen over the previous few days made the much of the route pretty muddy.

Conditions made it a difficult race but at the same time, it helped those who fell by giving them a soft landing.

Bridlington Road Runners had a good turn out of 21 runners and the ladies team shone, winning the team points beating strong Hull and Scarborough teams to get top spot.

Cathy Wood led Bridlington home and was also first lady overall in 40:39.

Next Bridlington lady back, in ninth, was Katy Cawthorne in 44:26, and finishing the ladies team was Pearl Bayford in 13th with a time of 45:07.

In the men’s race, John Nolan was first Bridlington runner home in 14th position with a time of 36:28.

Next back was Simon Ellerker with a time of 38:37 in 32nd, with third man Andy Baker 35th in 38:50.
