The thoughts of Bridlington director of rugby Rich Girking after their Yorkshire Shield quarter final win at Scarborough.
It was a really good win. Now we have to go there and win in the league too.
We thoroughly deserved the result because we ripped them to pieces, especially in the first half.
I feared the worst because half of our team smelt like John Smith’s brewery before kick off. In future, maybe we will take them to the pub every Friday night if they are going to play like that.
We won the toss and chose to play against the wind in the first half. I think Scarborough were shocked by that and we hit them with everything we had.
It was marvellous, there was a big crowd and they got quieter and quieter as the game went on.
We scrummaged well. the lineout went well and we carried the ball fantastically. Jimmy Thompson and Ntsikayomzi Daka set us going and everyone else followed on.
The rucking was first class, it was ferocious and when we had the chances, we took them. When they had the ball, we put them under so much pressure, they didn’t know what to do.
Our decision-making was excellent and Scarborough only managed 12 points before half-time were all kicks from about 40 metres. They were great kicks but on another day, he could have missed them all.
Scarborough came back at us in the second half and put us under a lot of pressure but we managed to hold out.
It goes to show how we can play. If we play like that every week, we won’t lose many games. We will enjoy this win and hope to reproduce it in January.
