Saturday will be an historic day for Bridlington Hockey Club, when the ladies’ first team play their first game in the Yorkshire Hockey League Premier Division.
The team forced their way into the top flight for the first time in their history, after completing a hat-trick of promotions last season.
Capping a remarkable rise in recent years, they finished second in Division One, losing only three of their 22 games - a record only bettered by champions Leeds Adel 2nds.
Bridlington’s England over-55s international Di Levitt said: “We are looking forward to playing in the Premier Division this year and are really pleased and proud of our promotion sucesses for the last three years in a row.”
A tough test awaits on the opening day as Bridlington face a trip to Dewsbury, who finished fourth in the Premier Division last year.
Bridlington have warmed up with a friendly at another top-flight side, City of York 2nds.
“We lost 2-1 but had a number of players missing,” added Levitt.
“It was a very pleasing and positive performance that allowed us to assess the standard in that league.”
Bridlington’s second team kick off in Division Five East with a trip to Goole 1sts on Saturday.
