Sunday saw the start of the East Yorkshire Cross Country Series season at Bishop Wilton, with a race organised by Pocklington Runners.
With the weather taking a turn for the worse the day before, the runners were expecting a taster of what to come in the coming winter months, but what a difference a day made, as the race got underway in glorious sunshine and no wind to slow the field down.
Although slightly muddy in some places from the previous day’s deluge, the main obstacle apart from the hills were the cows.
Bridlington Road Runners had a good turnout but it would have been bigger if not for work and other race commitments.
Shaun Pickering, who has not run for a few months because of injury, showed what he can do even when he is not fully fit, finishing in 17th in 42:00.
John Potter is back to his old self and was not too far behind in 24th with 43:11. Next up was Tony Smith in 30th spot in a time of 44:21 with Simon Ellerker 36th, John Nolan 38th and Scott Hargreaves 42nd giving the men fourth place in the team standings.
In the ladies Emma Brown led the team home, having a great run and finishing in sixth position with 46:55.
Becky Clifton, also running well, was eighth lady in 48:20 with Pearl Bayford the third to count in the ladies team, finishing 11th in 49:50 giving them a team position of third. Also running on the day were Josh Taylor, Janet Potter, Karyn Hoggarth, Dave Foster and Sarah Hardcastle, who had to pull out due injury.
