Organisers delighted by another great festival

Two hole-in-ones were among the highlights of another successful Bridlington Golf Festival.

Hundreds of golfers from around the UK, and even a group from Holland, arrived in the town to play in 13 competitions held over the week at the area’s three courses.

Some of the week's winners were from Holland.

Some of the week's winners were from Holland.

The first hole-in-one arrived on Thursday in the Gents Texas Scramble at Flamborough Head Golf Club by Bridlington GC member Frank McGuire.

His achievement on the par-three 10th was matched two days later by Caron Wright from Manchester, when she was playing the 17th at Bridlington Links.

The festival, which is held in association with East Yorkshire Events, is in its 23rd year and enjoyed glorious weather throughout the week.

Organiser Anthony Howarth said: “The week was once again a resounding success and so many people helped throughout the week. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of them on behalf of the Bridlington Golf Festival committee.”

During the week, three prize presentations were held, with the first last Monday at the Bridlington Links when the winners of the Junior Championship were crowned.

The second presentation took place on Wednesday evening at Flamborough Head, where captains Brian Ackers and Rose Bingham handed out the prizes.

On Saturday evening, the job of making the presentations fell to Frank Wilson and Carol Howard, captains at The Links.

During the ceremonies, thanks were expressed to the many volunteers and helpers who contributed towards making the event such a success, in particular the caterers, bar staff and green keeping staff at the three courses.

Details of the 2017 Golf Festival, which will run from Monday May 1, are already in circulation and brochures can be collected from any of the host golf clubs. Details can also be found on the website or the Bridlington Golf Festival Facebook page.

The Golf Festival committee would also like to thank the following sponsors for kindly supporting this year’s event: Lloyd Dowson Chartered Accountants, St Quintin Arms (Harpham), Thorpe Hall Caravan and Camping Site, Buffalo’s Fine American Restaurant, The Ransdale Hotel, Flamborough Head Golf Club B & B.
