Olympic windsurfers to compete in Bridlington Bay

THIS weekend sees the hugely popular UKWA National Windsurfing Championships, supported by East Yorkshire Events, return to Bridlington.

The town has been the home of this top class event for more than 16 years and during the weekend hundreds of spectators are expected to line the North Promenade to watch these action packed races along the spectacular East Yorkshire coastline.

More than 100 elite competitors including members of the Team GB Olympic squad, will descend on the town to compete in a number of different race classes to win one of the most hotly contested titles in UK windsurfing.

This event, organised by EY Events, has become a firm favourite on the UK windsurfing calendar thanks to the high quality beaches and magnificent coastline, which is perfect for competitions of this calibre.

Kieran Lawry from East Yorkshire Events said: “We are extremely pleased to once again host another great event that utilises one of the best coastlines in the UK.

“We are also delighted to be able to bring this fast paced sport to the area for visitors and residents to enjoy, while showcasing the very best that East Yorkshire has to offer.

“Bridlington is now re-established as the ‘Resort for Sport’ and this is proven by the large volume of people that flock to the town to experience these high quality national and international events.”
