Martongate Primary School’s gymnastics squad have showing their strength at a number of competitions around the region recently.
Some competed in a new Team Trio competition which resulted in the Mixed team finishing in third. The youngest members, aged seven and eight, won the Humber Regional Key Steps competition.
They all then competed in the Yorkshire Floor and Vault Championships in York. The boys team showed strength and maturity throughout their performances but were pipped at the post, finishing in second once again to their Sheffield rivals. Team members were Declan Potts, Riley Potts, Jacob Pearson, Lewis Hebden and Bailey Smithson.
The Girls A team was coached by Jordan Gilbey again this year who also choreographed their floor routines. The girls performed very well and finished in a well-deserved third place. Team members were Olivia Kelly, Ashley Harrowell, Tia Ward, Tegan Markey and Rhianna Granton.
It was the first competition for Girls B team who also did very well, finishing in fifth place. Team members are Grace Howarth, Rachel Pearson, Carmen Tindall, Mollie Clark and Sydney Jackson.
The Mixed Team performed their routines beautifully and displayed some fantastic skills showing flexibility and strength. Libby Marshall scored the highest floor score out of the whole of the competition. Once again, the team won the Yorkshire Championships by a huge margin.
They will now travel to Stoke on Trent to compete in the British Championships. Martongate had the youngest competitors in the Mixed team and so their achievements are even more remarkable. Team members were Shane Tyers (7), Harry Pearson (9), Lily Voase (8), Elisha Walbyoff (8) and Libby Marshall (9).
Coaches Mrs Ward, Mrs Voase, Miss Pugh and Miss Gilbey are so proud of all the gymnasts.
