Sewerby Parkrun 5K: February 9

IT WAS a lovely bright sunny morning at Sewerby on Saturday but it was very icy underfoot which made the paths treacherous to run on.

Despite this, a good turnout of runners made light of the conditions although personal best times were not an option.

Leading the way home was Phill Taylor in first place and a time of 18:13.

In second place was Mark Woodley with 22:18. He was closely followed by Simon Ellerker in sixth place in 23:30.

Father and son Simon and Ashley Porter finished in 10th and 11th places with Ashley beating Simon by five seconds in a time of 24:28.

Mark Loft had another good run finishing with 27:04 in 17th position.

Kevin Sissons and Stuart Atkinson also ran but were concentrating on mentoring other runners. Sissons finished 23rd in 29:21 and Atkinson was 32nd in 38:03

Hull Parkrun 5K – 9th February

IT WAS also icy over in Hull where Dave Playforth finished 25th in 21:08.

EYXC League, Welton XC: February 10

BY CONTRAST, it was extremely muddy at Welton for the fifth race in this season’s East Yorkshire Cross Country League which made it very hard going.

The Bridlington RR ladies continued their good run of form, finishing at Welton as first ladies team which cements their place as second team overall for the season.

Cathy Wood, although having a cold, finished in fourth place with a time of 40:13, next was Emma Brown in fifth place with 42:04 and the team was completed by Sarah Wood who was ninth in 43:34.

Bridlington’s first man to complete the course was Peter Gulc who was ninth in 35:24.

John Nolan, showing the benefit of his marathon training, was next to finish in 15th position in 36:18 and he was followed by Andy Baker in 25th in 38:25.

Other Bridlington runners, who all ran very well, were: Martin Smith (53rd M) 42:44, Becky Clifton (10th L) 44:13, Simon Porter (64th M) 45:02, Stuart Atkinson (84th M) 49:27, Mark Loft (95th M) 62:01 and Kath Baxter (33rd L) 62:01
