Bridlington RUFC’s newly-formed under 13s team took on a more experienced touring side from Rhyl in North Wales for their first competitive match.
The visitors were a big set of lads, with some of the Rhyl players being twice the size of the home squad.
But this didn’t scare Bridlington, who played fearlessly and tackled well above their weight.
Billy-Glen Wilson typified this in a man-of-the-match performance after tackling bigger opponents again and again.
Rhyl were very well organised and scored plenty of tries during the game, but four tries, shared by Kane Barrass and James Swindell, did Bridlington some justice.
The Bridlington club’s youth development officer Jack Bell said: “It was great to see some new young faces representing Bridlington’s growing junior section.”
Another new team at the Dukes Park club will take to the field for the first time next week.
Bridlington’s under 12s will take on York RI at home on Tuesday night, kicking off at 7pm.
Players are asked to meet at 5:45pm.
New players are welcome and encouraged to get in touch with Jack on 07523 804127.
