Bridlington boxer George Horner finally steps into the ring tomorrow (Friday) for his first professional contest.

The light-welterweight takes on Ibrar ‘Smokin’ Riyaz at Barnsley Metrodome, on a bill which also features his club-mate George Rhodes Jnr.

“I’m ready for action,” vowed Horner. “I am just chilling out now in the last few days.”

The Westway fighter has been at this stage before, having been due to make his debut in September, but the show was cancelled at the last minute. But Horner, 23, is undterred by the unplanned delay.

He said: “A fight is a fight. You fight whoever they put in front of you.

“I know the lad I am boxing has been on the circuit for years. He has had around 90 fights and although he only has around 10 wins, he is a tough, durable journeyman.

“He will give me a good test and that is what I need in my first fights.

“It will be nice to get the first bout out of the way, get a win under my belt and then relax over Christmas and come back again in the New Year.”

Tickets are still available for tomorrow’s show, priced £60 and £35, and a bus is leaving the Albion in Hilderthorpe Road at 5:30pm.
