Bridlington’s Leah Smith will be in familiar surroundings as she bids to reach the finals of the National Amateur Boxing Championship later this month.

The semi-finals will be held at Bridlington Spa, on Saturday, November 28 - the first time a boxing event of this size has been held in the town for more than a decade.

Smith’s contest, against an opponent who will travel from Hartlepool, is likely to be one of around 45 bouts held on the day, with action starting just after midday.

Tickets are priced £10.

Bridlington ABC head coach Damien Grant said: “The last time a show like this was in Bridlington it featured the likes of Amir Khan and Brian Rose, who are now boxing on a world level, so who knows what boxers of the future you might see.”

The NABC is run by the National Association of Boys and Girls Clubs and female boxers are competing for the first time in the event’s 109-year history.

The competition aims to find the best 15-to-18 year old boxers in England.
